About Me

Nikki Hock is a casino blogger who sculpts the spaces and environments and plays fair games. Nikki does not merely focus on representation and betting, but rather engages with the present moment to create abstractions of memories and lived experiences.

Currently Nikki is working on a trilogy of gambling installation based slot performances that is dealing with the pillars of modern citizenship. Why, Why ohh why (YYOY) is the first part of the trilogy.

YYOY is a slot machine performance that deals with immigration issues, as well as immigration narratives that are always told through stories of loss, loneliness and longing. It also deals with how your own story becomes other people’s stories when they tell it to you. For instance, when you tell someone that you’re from Hong Kong, they’ll ask “Ohh? What part?” And then they’ll tell you what they think of Hong Kong in terms of their own experience or knowledge about it (which may be very limited), or maybe they’ll tell you what they read in newspapers or saw on TV about it (which may be biased). And then they’ll ask if you’ve ever been there before which leads to another story about “Oh I went once…”
